25 publications, more than 150,000 free downloads, bands from Germany, Sweden, Russia, Italy and Brazil – this is the shorthand for the fledgling Netlabel afmusic. Specialized in the rather gloomy sounds of Dark Wave, Gothic rock, Indie, Alternative and Industrial Rock, it’s time for a brief look back…25, the summary of half a year working with great bands and an outlook on what will follow.
And so on the compilation can be found previously unreleased pieces from The Forced Oscillations, Sleazy Romance, On Wave, Emerald Park, all:my:faults, Unfactory, Rebentisch and The Search, the current single “Inconstancy” by Plastique Noir and to top that whole thing off, selected songs from the current albums by the Transisters, The SlimP, Torah and Noctiflora.
This time the virtual CD is exclusively available as free download on afmusic’s website.

Melancholische und fragile Popsongs, die aber schon im nächsten Moment mit aller Gewalt explodieren können, die sowohl Trip Hop- als auch World Music-Einflüsse in sich tragen, dies alles bereichert durch klassische Arrangements und Jazz-beeinflusste Experimente…eine Kategorisierung von Botany Bay fällt nicht gerade leicht.
Doch vielleicht ist eine Kategorisierung auch gar nicht so wichtig – wichtig ist es Stephan Kleinert (instruments, voc) und Laura Dietrich (voc, key) vor allen Dingen, emotionale und stimmungsvolle Musik zu produzieren, die den Hörer bewegt.
Unterstützt von unzähligen Gastmusikern aus aller Herren Länder und einer singenden Schulklasse verbrachte das Duo die letzten fünf Jahre damit, das aktuelle Album “Grounded” aufzunehmen. Das Ergebnis ist ein Konzeptalbum, das zwar keine Geschichte erzählt, dessen Songs aber dennoch thematisch und musikalisch zusammenhängen und den Hörer auf eine Reise in eine eigene, musikalische Welt schicken.
