In June of the last year, NOTES FROM UNDERGROUND from Madrid (Spain) earned much sympathy from fans of harder industrial rock sounds with their debut album “Crossing The Rubicon”. After several gigs in their homecountry, the band is on the road now for some live gigs in Germany and The Netherlands.

With the 5- track digital EP “Contact”, which will be released on 10/29/2010 on afmusic as free download, they also have the right appetizer on board. Beside the remix of “Greed” by Das Ich and the previously unreleased song “F.U.C.K. You”, there are as a musical delight two interesting cover-versions of “Into the Groove” (Madonna) and “Smells Like Teen Spirit” (Nirvana).

Within just one year afmusic got off to a lightning start. The most innovative netlabel in Germany for Darkwave, Gothic and Independent Music celebrates on the label founder Falk Merten’s birthday their release-anniversary and distributes big presents to their fans – and that are 16 in number on this fiftieth publication.

All are on this Anniversary-Compilation “AFMUSIC #50″. Exactly one dozen of it are previously unreleased or recorded exclusively for this release. Beside many known afmusic-acts the sampler also presents an absolutely new band. Therefore, it is less a retrospective, than even more a look in the future of the label.

“AFMUSIC #50″ indicates not only the variety and versatility of the present releases, but also their high musical and artistic quality. LATRISTE – the newest member of the label family – immediately deliver with her first song a potential hit single. SMOKE FISH and EMERALD PARK contribute dark-coloured pop pearls of the grade 1A and CONFUSION IS NEXT are represented, just like LIGHT IN YOUR LIFE with a dreadfully nice ballad. Thereby the music ranges from Shoegaze to the sturdy Alternative rock.

SPINEFISH, (((S))) and ART NOIR provide for the dark sound-collage which hold together “AFMUSIC #50″ and lend a breathtaking atmosphere to the album.

In between the big potential of a lot of afmusic-bands flashes: The label-draught-horses ALL:MY:FAULTS cement with a never been there mixture of 8-bit Postmetal and spoken words their exceptional position as the most innovative German band of the scene. STROMBLE FIX’s “Dispirited” is more progressively Hybrid from Grunge and Deathrock, “Enjoy” of REPTILE71 is more sombre than the legendary “Drowning one” and CAMP Z present a modern version of the Sisters Of Mercy.

Crowning end of the completely successful afmusic-show is the “Smells Like Teen Spirit” cover, which is the most stretching cover with wide distance of this decade.

With the debut of the quartet NOTES FROM UNDERGROUND, arrives at German record shops what is probably the hottest import from Spain. NOTES FROM UNDERGROUND decorates perfectly conceived Rock and Metal with catchy electronics. Its as if CEVIN KEY (Skinny Puppy) or RHYS FULBER (Front Line Assembly) would have added exciting song-patchwork to rapid guitar riffs that will shake the legs of any KMFDM-fans.

Already the violent opener “Phoenix Uprising” indicates the direction of an album that has what it takes to give a new impulse to the Industrial-Metal scene. Songs like Game or Heaven in Hell have a distinctive stamp on them which most musical comrades of Madrid-based NOTES FROM UNDERGROUND can only dream of.

“Crossing the Rubicon” strikes a tension arch from trance to trash-metal without losing its target vigorous Industrial Rock. This exciting spagat connects the best genre-ingredients of all times and catapults the energy of early NINE INCH NAILS into the present in a way no one else has in this millennium.

The album has already created a buzz within the relevant circles of the scene way before the release a full-house of genre-colleagues have loaded “Crossing the Rubicon” with a bunch of exciting alternative remixes: DIE KRUPPS, DAS ICH, Adrian White (FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, SILENT ALARM), William Faith (FAITH & THE MUSE), En Esch (former KMFDM, PIGFACE, SLICK IDIOT), Seb Komor (former ICON OF COIL, MELT) and Ulf Häusgen (former THE FAIR SEX).

Sometimes it seems like you stand alone with a vision in your life. And sometimes two have the same without knowing each other. In case of afmusic and Zorch Factory Records it is the promotion of talented newcomer bands basically from the Gothic-, Post-Punk and New Wave genre.

The more both got to know and estimate each other the clearer it became a logical consequence to work together. The consequence of this collaboration is the now available compilation ‘Howly Night’, which is much influenced by the name of x-mas and offered as free download.

23 more or less known bands with mainly previously unreleased tracks are on ‘Howly Night’. With the first track ‘Dead End’ from Dorcel the listener gets trapped into a wonderful melancholic world, which is mainly the undertone on all tracks of this compilation.

Besides already well known acts like The Search, Curious or Camp Z especially the new names are setting the highlights on this compilation. An example for this are ‘Ghost In The Snow’ from (((S))) and ‘Game’ from Notes From The Underground. Everybody who likes the styles of music pointed in the beginning should see ‘Howly Night’ as a commendation. Music for cold winter days that warms heart and soul.
