Thora draw with “Scars” a line under their band history, that came with the dissolution of the band in early 2009 to an abrupt end. Nearly a year and many events later, such as the creation of bandleader Tommy’s new project Godex, the band is grateful to the fans who kept faith with them so many years.

“Scars” proceedes where the band with the previous album “Baby No.666″ left off – strong melodies, versatile song structures, fat riffs and lots of atmosphere dominate the sound. And with the new – and so far last album – by Thora, the band once again approached one step further into the gothic scene. Conciliatory, but even as morbid and vulnerable, there are a lot of musical surprises to discover on “Scars”

Another year draws to a close and the ubiquitous Christmas Terror is superimposed over the next few days, probably back everything we loved and important. At this point, however, you deserve our thanks for your great support for afmusic. Because of your help, we were able to set some accents in the often boring music business, and we are very proud of more than half a million downloads of the songs of our artists. MAV

MAV have just formed back in 2008, in the quiet Modena (Italy). They came together down on ads that have run in the local press. Quickly, their meetings became very productive and the boys began to cover some old eighties-songs. The aim was finding their own way, without forgetting the old days. The essence of it is a mixture of very dark Electrowave, a little bit of Futurepop, with a lot of 80′s-atmosphere that gets out of hand into Ambient and Gothic.

Their EP “Enter” was published in 2009 as a free download at Zorch Factory Records, and a short time later on CD at Danse Macabre. On the download single “Il Crepuscolo Della Coscienza” there is now also a B-side, a cover version of The Cure song “The Kiss”.

REBENTISCH

Rebentisch want to give their fans a way to escape from the rampaging Christmas terror and offers some rare demo tapes and rehearsal recordings as a compilation for free download. Interesting are the differences to the recordings that made it officially on this year’s album “Herz zerrissen” or onto the EP by Der Zerfall.

In November 2009 Sven Rebentisch also stood again in front of the camera. In collaboration with LEA LOUISE MARSHALL, which already did the current Rebentisch clip “Angst”, a new video for the song “Danach” from the current album “Herz zerrissen” will be recorded. This time contribute a variety of extras in the clip, that lends the necessary trash-flair which Sven would love to have for this one. So the fans may be very curious to see what the new year at REBENTISCHS’ home brings us.

ON WAVE

It’s been a while since we published 2 EP’s of the russian indie band On Wave on afmusic. After “Vodka Bear Matreshka” in August last year and the follower “Special Thanks” in January 2009, it became a little quiet around Ilya Romanenkov, Misha Proskurin, Maksim Sushkov and their new drummer Marak Gvozdovsky. Though means quiet not sitting around idly and so there are now 15 new tracks, the full debut album “Ginger”. True to their motto ‘We are doing Indie. For You” as a free download. THE FORCED OSCILLATIONS

Meanwhile, there are 3 releases of the band from Moscow on afmusic. Founded in 2005 as a duo the transformation of German New Wave and EBM-bands influenced songs towards bass-heavy and atmospheric post-punk took its place. Before there is new material of the band, we have “Garlics” promo compilation for you as a free-download. In addition to the 3 EP’s there are some more recent live recordings on it. Anyone who didn’t took notice of The Forced Oscillations until now can get a complete impression of the bands’ work and their experimentation on this way.

After ten outstandingly successful years, THORA decided to go seperate ways. They once formed one of the most popular German Gothic-Metal-Formations, were the perennial hit in all subcultural magazines and succeeded in performing on the real big stages. After playing on concerts, such as the “Wave-Gotik-Treffen,” the legendary “Wacken” and conjoint gigs with HIM, the four-member band from Aachen disbanded.

As the Scene reflect on three brilliant albums and their fans – still growing in number – still reminisce about the band’s vigorous live shows, ex-THORA-frontman Tommy Tom is already busy producing new stuff. During just about five months, he has pulled a new album out of his hat – under the name GODEX – which has led to a great relief under THORA fans and it will excite quite a lot of future GODEX fans.

With “Gates Of The Universe”, he instantly solved the great “Dark-Rock” issue: when dark rocksongs apparenty become too catchy, they often lose their own special identity. Whereby even great names of this genre meet with complete failure, GODEX has succeeded instead with their debut. The band has created an album, which is self-reliant in sound and style but still teems with potential hit songs..

Multitalent Tommy Tom combines uncompromising riffs and atmospheric sequences with essentially untypical electronic and accustic sounds und consequently advances the Dark-Rock genre.

The title’s track begins with a lonely organ and ends in a musical token of love to the great melody. “Love Salvation” and “Melancholic Skies” are absolutely catchy and “Eagles” persuades with a powerful dynamic of impulsive electronic sounds and uncompromising riffs. “In Broad Daylight” combines the sound of Gothic-Rock with this irresistible morbidity of past songs by Nick Cave. “Dream With You” is pure heartache accompanied by the piano and “Big Wide Eyes” extremly sinister but still a really great rock ballad.

Dear THORA-fans: Every cloud has a silver lining. Dear Goth-Metal fans: Not every album unifies all strengths of a genre and still strikes new paths simultaneously.

“Gates Of The Univers” will be released 26th October via afmusic.
