Finally the waiting is over, defekt 86 publish new material the EP “Imperfection”. On this masterpiece the band present themselves much more mature, which does not only concern the vocals, but also song structure and arrangement.
The opener “Serious” with its haunting melody proves to be an incredible catchy tune, it feels a bit like The Cure at their best remembered. With no doubt the hit of this publication. After a quiet and acoustic onset, “I promised you pain” is pulling hypnotically into the spell, by ever-increasing to the dramatic. A bass guitar that plays through all the octaves and a chorus underlaid with strings and distorted guitars shows evidence of great song writing skills. The third song “Suburbs” with his impulsive bassline and also catchy melody developes an incredible tension and impresses with its clear structure. Starting with electronic drum sounds the last song “the end is not the end” produces a dark, apocalyptic mood that is discharged finally in loud guitar noise and screaming vocals, and then leaking into endless cascades of sounds and noises, thus almost the essential of the song’s name.
“Imperfection” is undoubtedly a big step for defekt 86 in the continuous development of their own style, an impressing mix of guitars and electronics.
